Some UAE tourist or visit permits can be extended, but eligibility depends on the issuing authority and exact category. GDRFA Dubai’s current tourist-extension service allows the same period to be added by authority decision, subject to a 120-day total. ICP also limits eligible visit/tourism routes to 120 days total and lists categories that differ. An extension is never automatic or guaranteed.

Can a UAE tourist visa be extended?

Potentially, yes—but first identify the authority, entry-permit category, original period and current status. “Tourist visa extension” is not one universal product.

Authority/service Extension rule shown Official fee evidence checked 28 August 2026 Completion wording
GDRFA Dubai — tourist visa for single or multiple trips Same period; one or more times by issuing-authority decision; total not over 120 days AED 600 + 5% VAT; conditional inside-UAE fees may apply Expected completion: 48 hours
ICP — eligible visit/tourism entry permit Once or multiple times by issuing-authority decision; total not over 120 days AED 100 application + AED 500 extension; category selection matters Service completion: 2 days

These are route-specific official service figures, not a Visagator/provider price or promise. Both official systems make the issuing authority’s decision central.

GDRFA Dubai tourist-extension details

The current GDRFA service says a single- or multiple-trip tourist visa may be extended for the same period. It requires a passport copy and lists:

GDRFA official amount Value
Visa extension fee AED 600
VAT 5%
Knowledge fee, if sponsored person is inside UAE AED 10
Innovation fee, if sponsored person is inside UAE AED 10
Inside-country fee, if sponsored person is inside UAE AED 500

GDRFA states that the total may vary. The service is available through digital channels and Amer service centres; GDRFA also says only accredited tourism offices in the emirate can issue this kind of visa.

ICP extension rules differ by category

ICP’s consolidated extension service includes several categories. For its visit/tourism entry-permit branch, it says the authority may extend once or multiple times while total stay does not exceed 120 days. It lists passport, personal photo and the same documents submitted at issuance according to visa type.

The same ICP page proves why category checking matters:

  • a 14-day permit for specified nationals residing outside their nationality country may be extended once for the same period;
  • a 60-day permit under that special category is not extendable;
  • relative/friend, medical, study and other permits have separate limits;
  • pre-entry validity extension is different from extending permitted stay.

These special routes are examples of route dependence, not Visagator product offers.

Entry-window extension versus stay extension

Request Meaning Timing
Pre-entry validity extension More time to use an unused entry permit to enter Before arrival, if the route is eligible
Permitted-stay extension More authorized time after entry Before the current stay deadline, if the route is eligible

Read check visa dates first before requesting the wrong type of extension. For an existing application or issued-detail problem, use status and correction help.

How many days can be added?

For the current named GDRFA tourist service, the wording is “for the same period,” subject to the issuing authority and a 120-day total. For ICP, the duration depends on category and the same 120-day total applies to its visit/tourism branch. Do not infer that every 30-day permit always receives another 30 days or every 60-day permit always receives another 60 days; approval is required.

When should I check extension options?

Check before the current entry deadline or permitted-stay deadline, depending on which clock needs attention. Do not wait for a permit to expire and do not treat an application as approval. Confirm the authority record and keep proof of any issued extension.

Traveller scenario

A traveller entered on a 30-day tourist permit and now wants to remain longer. They should identify whether the permit is GDRFA Dubai- or ICP-issued, verify the current stay deadline, ask the relevant channel whether this category is extendable, review the official fees, and wait for an issued extension before changing plans. The request alone does not add days.

Common extension mistakes

  • Confusing an unused permit’s entry-window extension with a stay extension.
  • Assuming every visa category follows the GDRFA tourist-service rule.
  • Treating the official completion time as guaranteed approval.
  • Adding conditional inside-UAE fees to every case.
  • Waiting until after the current deadline to investigate.
  • Assuming a submission confirmation is an approved extension.

These are practical interpretation checks, not a list of official rejection reasons.

Visagator can review the traveller’s permit details and help prepare an assistance inquiry where an appropriate channel is available. It cannot promise eligibility, approval, an exact extension period or an end-to-end completion time.
